APOLOGY. Dedicated to English Class 4th

Yesterday we had the party at Nuria’s home and, despite we didn’t discover who were Nailbiting and Naraida, everything was very good. I also discovered some other people’s identity from the other class, but unfortunately at that point I discovered I have also hurt a very nice person on one of my comments. At that very moment I felt (and I still feel) really bad and it’s something that it has been rounding in my mind during all the night. I tried to look for an excuse while we were chating round the table but, sincerely, there are no excuses for that kind of comments. Tell her, as I did, that I read her post three times at 6 o’clock in the morning is a cheap excuse. I must accept my behaviour was rude and that’s why I want to say I’M TERRIBLY SORRY to that person. I only hope that person will accept my excuses and I hope, if next year we are at the same class, we can be good friends.

A READING SPEED LIMIT!!!

Yesterday in class our dear teacher told us we have to select some quotes from Maurice book. We made “The Hours” exam 15 days ago and in 20 days, more or less, we will have Maurice’s exam, but just now she remembers to tell us about it. I asked her why didn’t she tell us about it just the day after “The Hours” exam. I told her I was in the middle of the book and I think is not respectable for some of us to decide now we have to select some quotes. Her answer: “You go very fast reading!!!”. Gooood answer. Is there any reading speed limit in class? Probably the teacher could think some of us have some other duties during the day than read. Unfortunately I cannot lie in the sofa and read 30 or 40 pages, I have to read little by little during my short periods of free time so that means sometimes I can only read 4 or 5 pages maximum and that’s why I usually begin to read the book soon. In fact I don’t want to run out of time, or as we usually say in spanish “No quiero que me pille el toro”.

SAMARA, AUGUST 2005

August 2nd, our lawyer has just phoned us. August 10th is the judgement’s date so we have to be in Samara at less two days before. Aaaaah!, again the same story but now we are in August. Do you know how difficult is to look for a plane ticket in August?. Fortunately both have holidays at work during these days. On August 6th we made again the same route (Barcelona – Madrid – Moscow – Samara). This time Elena wasn’t our translator. Natalia (or Natasha, as you like) is more experienced on judgements so she will come with us. We arrived to Samara at night and we went visiting Anna just the next morning. She, of course, didn’t remember about us but we didn’t need too much time to attract her attention. Some toys for her and a lot of kisses and hughs were enough. On August 10th we had the judgement. At the beginning we were really nervous because we, both, had never been on a judgement. After some minutes everything was plain sailing. We discovered there were a special feeling from all parts to make all things easy for us. The next day we went to look for Anna. At that very moment she was, legally, our daughter. We were a little scare about her reaction at the moment of taking her from the orphanage. We thought he would began to cry but… there we were, the baby smiling and saying goodbye and me crying and giving thanks to doctors and nurses!!!. Can you imagine Anna’s face when she discovered the world? I would have liked to be inside her head to know what she was thinking about. Cars, buses, hotels, airports, airplanes, new food, two strange guys and lots of people. We stayed two more days in Samara finishing all bureaucratic process and then we flied to Moscow. We stayed there two more days (because we arrived on Saturday night). On Sunday we went to visit Red Square and not too many more things. A funny anecdote in Moscow happened while we were going for a walk at a shopping arcade in Red Square. Anna’s dinning room at the orphanage was at the first floor and during the days we were in Samara when she was hungry she used to take me to the stairs pointing with her finger to the first floor. I was with her at the shopping arcade while my wife was buying a baby champoo,  she took me by the hand to a stair pointing with her finger to the first floor and looking at me. At that very moment I told my wife “Anna is hungry!!!”. Next Monday we went to the Spanish Embassy to look for her Visa (she had and she still has Russian passport). After that, directly to the airport. A long long fly Moscow – Frankfurt – Barcelona was waiting for us. I suppose Lufthansa crew from Moscow to Frankfurt will never forget about Anna. She cried energically during all the flight. We arrived to Barcelona at midnight, destroyed, with bags under our eyes. Our family was waiting for us at the airport. At that very moment I couldn’t control my feelings. Tears again appeared in my eyes while I was showing Anna to my father. Welcome Anna. Thanks for choosing us as your parents.
Nowadays many people use to tell us we did something wonderful because we “save” her life and I usually answer them that we didn’t saved Anna’s life but SHE SAVED OURS!!!!.
Finally I want to dedicate this post to “Solnishko” workers and specially to Anna and Svetlana (doctor and nurse respectively). There is no money in the world to pay the fantastic work all of them are doing at Solnishko orphanage.
